Nika
I started making candles by accident. I’ve spent most of my adult life working as a photographer and technical assistant on a film set. Somewhere in between the projects, I started making candles. At first, it was for myself, later, for my friends, and now I have the honor to do it for you.
Makazek would have never happened if not for two events. First is a moment when I met Kuba. He is my soulmate who supports me in every venture I make, even the most abstract ones. Another is Summer 2019. Days were long, warm, and colorful – and I couldn’t get a job. Not to lose serenity in between e-mails and offers, I made candles. Then, one day, Kuba asked me, if I would like to attend a fair and show my Makazeks to the world.
This idea seemed bold to me but I quickly began to dream – and for me, dreaming means being alive. I had no plan. I had no expectations. I simply liked making candles and let myself to be drawn into this adventure.
Now, when I make up new scent compositions, get the orders ready, answer messages, pick up labels, attend fairs, post new photos, and think about the improvements I can make, sometimes I get just a tiny bit teary. But these tears are the ones each of us probably needs sometimes, to look ahead and feel grateful.
